10 reasons I hate the Droid by Verizon

Unless you have been under a rock for the last 2 months, you know that Droid hit Verizon stores on the 6th. I was estatic! I was so excited to have a touch screen plus real keyboard, apps and more on the Verizon network (because really, At&T? Get some service!). Anyway, it took me until this weekend to get to the store to go check it out, as I will never buy a phone without playing with it and asking a million questions first. Anyway, onto the 10 reasons that I hate the droid:
- Their commercials make you want one really badly
- The screen is awesome, the keyboard kicks ass, and they own the tech
- It is on the Verizon network!!
- It runs multiple applications easily
- It is small and easy to carry
- There are really cool covers for it in pink!
- The price point is reasonable for a phone
- The screen is easy to read and the touch is responsive
- It shows real version of websites, instead of ‘mobile’ versions
- The camera on the phone has more megapixels than my current digital camera
So maybe I should explain why these seemingly awesome things make me hate the droid? If you’re anything but a google fiend, you should know the answer.
Verizon took a huge step forward in partnering with google and android and creating the new droid phones. The commercials were awesome. The phone looked great and from most reviews, worked awesome as well. But it had one massive failure – verizon let google monopolize the phone. For example, here is what I learned about the phone while at Verizon:
- I can’t sync my email without a gmail account
- I can’t sync my calendar, tasks or contacts without a gmail account
- Even with an exchange server, syncing doesn’t work well
- I can’t buy apps without a gmail account
- The apps you can get don’t run properly without a gmail account
- Google runs everything on the phone
- Google doesn’t allow non-google approved applications like ubertwitter
- Yahoo? Nope, no access to that either.
- Google and gmail are not user friendly
- Did I mention google monopolized it completely??
The phone looks cool, the buttons work well, it covered all the things that the iphone can’t do (pics in the dark anyone?), runs multi applications and has both a real keyboard and a virtual keyboard…but it is designed to completely alienate anyone who doesn’t live and die by google.
So, I guess I’ll be waiting until the end of the month for the new Blackberry Curve…

I hate this phone, this is going to be the longest 2 yrs of my life. can’t have a conversation w/o the phone turning off after 12 mins. can’t rely on it for important conversations, certainly not business. the browser is pokey & constantly freezes up. wish i would have waited. no wonder they are doing a BOGO to get rid of them!

I cannot tell you how much I hate my new Droid and I am so sorry I didn’t see your blog before I bit the marketing-baited hook. I was told today, with great scorn, by one of the “friendly” Verizon punks that I should never expect the battery to last if I use the device to make CALLS. Silly me: I thought it was a phone that did other stuff…all except function as a phone, it turns out.

I hate my Droid. As a PDA it works great for me, since I use Gmail and have Google Calendar; but I also have not problems synching with Outlook for work – in fact, it works better than my Blackberry in that regard. It is also a nice browser, with fast connections. HOWEVER, as a PHONE it is the worst!!! The touch screen is so sensitive that if my hair or an earring bumps it, it hangs up, calls someone else, etc. It drops calls all the time for no reason and the battery life is bad. Despite looking vigorously, there seems to be no way to alter the sensitivity of the screen, and it is hard to hold or handle without bumping the screen. When I let other people use the phone, they complain as well. I hate AT&T so much and their coverage is crap but I want an Iphone!!! The exclusivity deals in this country are ridiculous and don;t exist elsewhere – you should be able to buy a phone and use it with any carrier. That’s my two cents!

I Just switched to Verizon from At&t, oh man what a S#ttttyyy move. I have the droid phone, goddd do I wish stayed with At&t and got i-phone! This droid phone is the worst thing ever created. Lost all of my pictures like three times, one of them with no explanation. The two other times is because the dumb phone makes it sooo easy to delete them! I’m a big texting person, texting on this phone is the worsssttt. It freeezess it crashessss and you lose ALL of your messages every time! Wow, horribleeee extremely unsatisfied with this piece of S#iT! Did I mention all the hidden charges and extremely poooooorrrrr tech support!!!!!!

I HATE the droid!!! I am DIVORCING it TODAY!!! (Still within the 30 day trial period, THANK GOD!!!) Trying to find a contact so I can make a call takes forever…scrolling, scrolling, scrolling…oops! I passed up the number I needed…oops! scrolled past it again…oops! somehow I got back to the home screen…start over. GRRRRRR!!! Yet, as sensitive as it is when scrolling to find a contact, I have to hit the send button 2-3 times to get a text to go & have to hit icons a couple of times to get anywhere. When my phone numbers were transferred from my old phone, a bunch of the names and phone numbers got mixed up, etc. (which has never happened before). I could go on and on about all the things I HATE about the droid, but it would take all day at least!

Does anyone with this God forsaken phone had trouble with people hearing you?! Because this stupid mother f’n phone…ugh. Apparently it muffles your voice. I have everyone saying “huh?” “what?” “Steph, I can’t understand what you’re saying!” I hate it. I had a friggin KRZR and I would take that back again versus this stupid phone.

It is CLEAR the fools at Motorola who designed the DRIOD NEVER saw a cell phone, let alone used one.

I hate Hate HATE this phone, esp. since the v2.2 “upgrade”. I would rather go back to my crummy prepaid flip phone than keep this POS.
January 25th, 2011 on 11:53 pm
I’m happy to read it’d just not me who HATES this phone. I got sucked in by the ads & now I’m stuck with this dammed thing. I loved my Blackberry and thought this would be an upgrade. Right!! It’s one giant step back! I can’t sync my email, contacts, or tasks. I can’t play games and I have to use a fckg stick to type. Blackberry RULES. This is a piece of Shit. I HATE it.

I could not agree with Gail (above) more. The sensitivity makes the Droid as a phone a useless piece of crap. I’ve butt-dialed and butt-texted so much it is ridiculous, too. Some of the butt-texts were in a foreign language. I can’t have a phone conversation unless I leave my house and walk out to the cul-de-sac and it’s the middle of winter. Thanks alot, Droid.

DOID is the absolute most HORRIBLE phone I hav ever had in my life….the touch screen is so sensitive, it constantly hangs up on people or goes mute and they cannot hear you. Not a day has gone by where I have not hung up on someone or dropped several calls. I am a heavy business cell user and usually run in the 4 to 5K min per month range. Since I have had the droid, I hate and refusse to talk on my cell and will be surprised if I use more than 1k mins. My business and personal life have severly suffered since i got the droid. I would rather go without a phone than use this one. They have overlooked the most basic function on this phone. It is to call and talk to people! I have never experienced so much stress from a phone! Stay away from it!

I HATE this droid! I rely on it to sync with my enterprise outlook files and at least twice a week I have an appointment on my calendar that doesn’t sync with the piss poor Droid. I am SOOOOO disappointed in this and can’t wait until my contract is over to get rid of Droid and Verizon!

Oh no! I am sorry to hear that! I am not the author of this post and am an avid Droid fan! What will you get next? Thanks for your comment Doug!
